Today, we’re diving into the story of Martin, one of our co-founders, whose curiosity about sustainability first drew him into the world of wine. Martin has kindly shared his story .. 

Journey into wine 

"My journey began unexpectedly during a lockdown Zoom call with my university friends Toby (who is also part of the Wine&Earth team!). Over a glass of red wine, we tried to uncover the sustainability credentials of the wines they were in the middle of consuming but found it surprisingly difficult to gather accurate and comparable information  - from the farming of the land, to the winemaking, from packaging to distribution, and from consumption through to packaging waste. We were struck by the fact that in other areas of our lives we were able to make conscious purchasing decisions, and wanted to be able to do the same in wine. But there was no one catering to this need. So we decided to so something about it, and launched Collectivino (now Wine&Earth) in 2021, with a mission to “mainstream sustainable wines”."  

Martin's Fun Fact: Champagne Bubbles

Did you know that a single bottle of Champagne contains an estimated 49 million bubbles? That’s right! According to scientist Gérard Liger-Belair from the University of Reims in France, this extraordinary figure was uncovered through a study on bubble physics.
