Displays notes of blackberry, cinnamon, meaty, red cherry and red plum; a classic, well balanced Rioja.

Lovely with savoury dishes such as risotto with mushrooms and a lovely with pasta ravioli. Pleasant accompaniment to boiled or roasted meats.

Best served at 15 – 18°C.

Ramírez de la Piscina, a family winery that for at least the last 4 generations has been making Rioja wines. Their name is an ancient aristocratic family name which originated from the 12th Century Romanesque Church of Santa María de la Piscina. In early 1945, Julio Ramírez de la Piscina followed the tradition of grape growing which he had inherited from his parents and continued cultivating the family vineyards in Ábalos, a village within the Rioja Alta. Bodegas Ramirez was eventually founded in 1973 and he began to sell his own bottled wine. Since 1980, Julio’s children Cecilio, Julio and Pilar have been running the winery, specialising in traditional Tempranillo.

Their vineyards are located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Abalos, not farther than 4 km from the winery and are very small parcels without irrigation, located at 500 metres above sea-level and set in clay-stone soils and still manually prune and harvest all of their grapes.
