1* Up & Coming
Steeped in history dating back to 1766, Château La Râme is a family-owned jewel of the Bordeaux wine region. For more than 150 years under the same family’s care, the 45-hectare estate—planted predominantly to vines—has been managed with a strong respect for tradition and a growing commitment to environmental stewardship.
Certified High Environmental Value (HEV), the vineyard embraces practices that conserve natural resources, protect pollinators, and safeguard the delicate balance of the local ecosystem. Water and energy-saving measures, careful waste management, and targeted planting of hedgerows are just some of the steps taken to preserve biodiversity and soil health.
Adapting to the realities of climate change, the team has adjusted canopy management to protect grapes from excessive heat, introduced more resilient grape varieties, and implemented erosion control through strategic planting. The use of synthetic treatments is minimal, with a strong preference for organic alternatives.
In the cellar, winemaking is guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the fruit’s character to shine. Careful blending decisions are central to crafting balanced and expressive wines. All wines are vegan-friendly, with bentonite clay and peas used as natural fining agents.
Château La Râme’s connection to the local community runs deep. The estate regularly donates bottles to local charities, hosts school visits, and offers training opportunities for young people. Strong female leadership at the helm ensures that both tradition and forward-looking sustainability remain integral to the estate’s identity.
With a vision for greater recognition of quality and the means to reinvest in environmentally conscious practices, Château La Râme continues to honour its rich heritage while adapting for a sustainable future in Bordeaux winemaking.
