The winery owned by the Counts of Castelo and was originally built in the 15th century. Located in the D.O. Rías Baixas, it is one of the few wineries in the province of La Coruña. Their Solagra vineyard, which comprises 80% of their production, lies mostly within the Ulla Valley, an area at 800 m above sea level that is actually cooler than Galicia’s coastal regions. The Albariño grown in this special micro-climate slowly develops its perfume and fruit while keeping its innate freshness.

1* Up & Coming
In the verdant landscapes of Vedra, A Coruña, Casa do Sol Froiña has been producing wine since 1976, combining family heritage with a deep respect for nature. Today, the estate spans 17 hectares, over 70% of which is dedicated to vines, with a further quarter preserved as natural woodland, creating a balanced and biodiverse environment.

Viticulture here follows a natural approach, allowing the vines to grow and develop with minimal interference. The focus is on nourishing the soil and maintaining the health of the plants, ensuring that every vintage reflects the pure character of the Albariño grape. This gentle, attentive style of farming is supported by sustainable practices, with a strong preference for organic alternatives and low sulphur use.

Winemaking at Casa do Sol is guided by simplicity and authenticity. Using only indigenous yeasts, the team crafts wines that truly express the essence of their terroir. Packaging and operations are increasingly mindful of environmental impact, with the estate choosing 100% low-carbon electricity sourced from renewable and nuclear energy.

Beyond the vineyard, Casa do Sol is an active member of its community, participating in local events and supporting initiatives. The leadership team includes strong female representation and voices from under-represented groups, bringing diversity and inclusivity to the forefront of the estate’s identity.

With ambitions to be recognised as a benchmark for high-quality Albariño in both domestic and export markets, Casa do Sol remains dedicated to combining tradition, quality, and care for the land in every bottle they produce.
