Ramírez de la Piscina, a family winery that for at least the last 4 generations has been making Rioja wines. Their name is an ancient aristocratic family name which originated from the 12th Century Romanesque Church of Santa María de la Piscina. In early 1945, Julio Ramírez de la Piscina followed the tradition of grape growing which he had inherited from his parents and continued cultivating the family vineyards in Ábalos, a village within the Rioja Alta. Bodegas Ramirez was eventually founded in 1973 and he began to sell his own bottled wine. Since 1980, Julio’s children Cecilio, Julio and Pilar have been running the winery, specialising in traditional Tempranillo
