1* Up & Coming
In the heart of Rueda, Valladolid, Bodega Valdehermoso has been producing wines of character since 2004. Family-owned and fully independent, the estate’s 60 hectares are planted entirely to vines, reflecting a focused dedication to crafting wines that capture the essence of this renowned Spanish appellation.
Viticulture here is guided by a strong commitment to sustainability—balancing respect for the environment with the economic realities of winegrowing. The team takes a thoughtful approach to inputs, favouring organic methods wherever possible and working to protect local flora and fauna. Soil health is nurtured through regular cover cropping, organic compost, and reduced tillage, while careful irrigation and vineyard management help safeguard yields against the effects of climate change.
In the winery, quality begins with patience and a deep understanding of both the land and the craft. Wines are produced with minimal sulphur use—less than 50 mg per litre for both reds and whites—and all are vegan-friendly. Fermentation draws on a combination of commercial, wild, and selected native yeasts, allowing for complexity and authenticity in the final wines.
Energy efficiency is a point of pride, with the estate powered entirely by renewable electricity, including on-site generation. Packaging is chosen with sustainability in mind, and ongoing initiatives aim to reduce environmental impact even further.
Bodega Valdehermoso is also an active force in its community, collaborating with local associations, participating in regional events, and using wine tourism to share the culture and heritage of the area. Strong female leadership and a workplace that values employee welfare reinforce the estate’s ethos of care—both for people and for the planet.
With a clear vision for environmentally friendly viticulture and a drive to protect the land for future generations, Bodega Valdehermoso continues to produce wines that are as responsible as they are expressive.
